In 1995, Columbia City in South Seattle was not a place you'd want to be on a Saturday night. Neighbors got together to change that, to create a safe and vibrant community in which to live, work and play. Out of those efforts, BeatWalk was born as a monthly, summertime music festival where local businesses host live music, and attendees can wander from venue to venue. Muse Indigo produced BeatWalk from 2005 until 2010, and implemented many structural changes to ensure the continuation of the event. BeatWalk hires close to 100 musicians per year, and attracts over 1,500 visitors annually. BeatWalk is considered an "anchor" event as part of the Columbia City Business Association's efforts to keep this historic business district vital and successful.
